On March 7, 2019, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) proposed a rule that boosts the salary threshold at which workers are eligible to receive overtime, making a major change to employee exemption criteria under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This could extend overtime protections to more than a million currently exempt workers making less than $35,308 per year.
